I have a 6′x8′ deer stand, well insulated, made of cedar, 12′ high. I already have a BP 120 watt solar panel, small charger, and a 400 watt inverter. Last year I used 3 optma blue top deep cycle/starting batteries in series, giving me 3 12 volt batteries total output of 12 volts. I have a 30 inch flat screen tv/dvd player combo, a small icebox that only draws 1.2 amps, a 750 watt microwave, 2 100 watt light bulbs, and an airconditioner/heater, which draws ac-5.0 amps, and heat 8.0 amps. Tv draws about 100 watts. Last year this system would only run tv & icebox, and run bats. down less than 3 hrs. Panel was on ground running up to charger with small ga. wire, and 20+ ft. Now panel is mounted on top, with largest wire that would fit. What rec. do you have on battery size, inverter size, and charger size? I want to be able to leave all on 24 hrs a day 7d a wk.? no lights tv or ac/heat while not there. Just Icebox while gone. I hunt 3 days at 4 hrs max which would use tv,ac/heat, microwave
I forgot to mention that I must have the power to run my dish network sat., which uses about 10 watts.

The cable charger brick thing says 100-240v 50-60hz 1.5A input.The output is 19v and 3.95A
I was planning on using the solar cells out of the outside lamps that line the walkways ot houses.

im looking to go off grid and need some info on panels, solar charger, and battery bank. my highest electric bill was 2900 kwh so i need to cover the usage charge batteries and sell some back to the MAN hahaha
ok well, not off grid but, self supportive enough to make all i need plus some to sell back. as just in case i want to be tied to the grid just in case

My portable solar panel gives out 18-20 volts instead of the 12-14 that it is supposed to. I know that if I put a resistor in line (series) that it will bring the voltage down so my voltage regulator likes it better. What specs on the resistor do I need? I know P=IE and E=IR, but it has been 20 years since my electronics classes, and I also need to know the size of the resistor as well as the Ohms rating. Can anyone help?
I use this panel to charge 12volt lead gel cel and lead acid marine deep-discharge batteries. The gel cells range from 5Ah to 12Ah and the marine batteries are more along the lines of 60Ah. The voltage regulator is designed for use with solar panels so that batteries don’t get fried. It makes sure that a stable current is sent to the batteries and as they reach full, it switches to a trickle charge. When the sun goes down it has a built in diode to prevent battery discharge. It was flashing rather than the normal solid light, so I pulled out a multimeter and pegged the dial…switched to 50 volt range and it told me it was at 19 or 20 volts. First I put a 12 volt (10 watt) light in parallel with the regulator and it brought the voltage down to about 14. I randomly grabbed a scrap resistor out of my junk drawer (1/2 watt I think) and put it in series with the regulator(input). The light changed to solid, not blinking, but how much efficiency am I losing if I overresist? L.A. sunlight.
The regulator is a marine battery device for use on boats. This is its intended purpose. The regulator is not the problem… with no other devices attached, the panel is putting out close to 20 volts at around an amp. I’m not complaining about the great output, I just want to make sure I don’t blow anything up. It is rated as a 14 volt, 750mA device, but it is putting out 20ish at closer to 1 Amp.

I would like to have a designated solar panel electric system to charge an electric car. Can it be designed as a Portable system to take with me if and when I move to a new house? Or can one be designed as a portable system to take in the car and used to charge the car when needed?

i am an on the road driver and need a portable battery power charger(no solar charger) to charge my gps while i drive.I cant bring a laptop so i need something i can put batteries in and plug to gps.Some of the cell phone chargers are not poerful enough.Thnx for any help
