We experienced a small earthquake here a few years back and it really opened my eyes. Living in California most of my life, we are used to earthquakes on a pretty continuous basis. The cities and communities around where we lived, are pretty much prepared for the aftermath of a large quake. It is a way of life there. The traffic signal lights on the streets were all dependent on electric power so they did not work as well. This caused traffic jams and congestion on the few roads we have. As residents went to the grocery stores, lines were forming as they had to be let in, led by flashlights in small groups because the stores had little or no back up power. You get the picture. There were many other instances that are to numerous to list.
